PRESS RELEASE

Cogne Acciai Speciali uses 100% electricity from renewable sources in all its European plants

Cogne Acciai Speciali announces that since January 2024 all electricity supplying its European production plants has come from renewable sources, reaffirming that the goals of transitioning to environmentally sustainable production are central to the company's development strategies.

"We are proud to declare that all our products will have zero impact in terms of Scope 2, as defined by the relevant regulations," says Andy Vuillermin, Sales Manager of Cogne Acciai Speciali.

Similarly, with the aim of strengthening internal decarbonisation efforts, Cogne Acciai Speciali launched a project in 2023 for the production of green hydrogen, which will power one of the heat treatment furnaces at the group's Aosta plant, allowing for a reduction in natural gas consumption and consequently CO2 emissions.

Green hydrogen will be produced through a process of electrolysis, with electricity supplied by a newly built hydroelectric plant on the Dora Baltea, a river flowing at the plant's border.

"The new project testifies to Cogne Acciai Speciali's continued commitment as a forerunner in the use of innovative technologies for industrial sustainability. Ours is not just a declaration of intent; the concreteness and consistency of our efforts was recently validated by Statista, an independent research and analysis body for corporate data, which awarded our company the title of Sustainability Leader again this year,” concludes Andy Vuillermin.

Cogne Acciai Speciali SpA, headquartered in Aosta, Italy, has 7 production plants, of which 5 are in Europe (Italy, Sweden, Switzerland and UK) and 2 overseas (China and Mexico). The company is finalising the acquisition of Mannesmann Stainless Tubes, with five plants dedicated to the production of seamless stainless steel and nickel-based alloy tubes.
